A cinephile entrepreneur: the adventure of Paul Bijaoui
Paul BIJAOUI (TBS Education 2016) has been drawn to the world of cinema ever since he was a child. An attraction that led to a passion for movie posters. It's a passion that he has skilfully merged with his job, enabling him to live the daily life of the latter.
In 2014, Paul left Toulouse as a student for a gap year in the United States. This opportunity led to a number of professional experiences, notably in B2B logistics. But that's not all. In this land of all possibilities, Paul became fascinated with and enriched by the rich heritage of American cinema, adding to his poster collection (classics, originals and modern reinterpretations).
Two years later, with a degree in hand, Paul joined the Auchan Group. However, an entrepreneurial opportunity disrupted his 1st professional adventure. His sister, who had recently founded a start-up, asked him to come and work with her. How could he refuse a family entrepreneurial adventure? Paul had always been sensitive to entrepreneurship, and he decided without hesitation to put logistics aside to take the plunge and invest in the young family business.
The following year was one of deep introspection, filled with ambition. Paul wanted to turn his passion into his profession, and so he gave birth to his own project: in 2018, Plakat saw the light of day.
Plakat is a high-end publisher of revisited film posters.
Created and produced by independent designers, the works quickly become popular with the general public, and the clientele is growing.
Two sales outlets are now available: an online boutique and a gallery in the heart of Paris.
Today, the company has diversified and now offers posters for cinema, festivals, cultural events and travel, each bearing the distinctive signature of its creator.
Plakat aims to revive the emotions and memories associated with works full of cinematic or event references. By revisiting them, the designers metamorphose the posters, giving them a new lease of life. This initiative has also enabled Plakat to stand out in a competitive and lively market.
For Paul, the Plakat adventure has been full of challenges.
Since his launch, Paul has had to cope with daily stress and has no choice but to multi-task. This versatility enables him to increase his skills on a daily basis, while at the same time fulfilling his potential.
The adventure hasn't always been easy. But what could be more motivating than seeing a dream come true?
"Entrepreneurship is a daily grind. Customers and money don't just fall from the sky, you have to constantly monitor your market and develop your business. Being an entrepreneur isn't just a job, it's a real philosophy of life that isn't easy every day. Before succeeding, there will be failures, more or less important, but that's part of being an entrepreneur. It can be frightening, but you learn by doing. No matter how old you are or when you start, you'll always have a good reason not to go for it, so don't back down and go for it." - Paul Bijaoui
