Nicolas LOPEZ looks to the future with eco-design and reuse

05 February 2024 Portraits / Podcasts

Nicolas LOPEZ (TBS Education 2022) began his career in Toulouse as a house designer, works supervisor and finally project manager in the building industry.

Since 2017, he has been in charge of fitting out workspaces on the site of a major aeronautics group based in Toulouse.

He has worked for over 15 years with architects, engineers and workers. He was able to manage numerous projects from concept to completion, in close contact with all parties involved.

It was in 2020 that he first became aware of the issues surrounding innovation in the building sector.

Building and designing are his favorite fields, but they are facing major issues, particularly in terms of the environment.

Several questions come to mind: How can new construction methods make building more sustainable, and how can we reduce waste in this field? How can we reuse materials and equipment in good condition?

He then wanted to redirect his career towards a project with greater meaning and impact on the habitat. It's a project that requires him to go back to school. Nicolas needs to develop his skills in strategy, design thinking and entrepreneurship.

In 2021, he joins TBS Education to complete the Specialized Master in Management of Technological Innovation, with a view to strengthening his professional background and turning towards a new objective: integrating/creating eco-design projects, reusing materials and respecting the environment.

During the course, he met Lisa Sinardet, who was taking part in a pitch course, and joined her at Thales Alenia Space's Fablab for an internship on user experience. The Fablab is a workspace open to all company employees, designed to encourage inventiveness, learning and knowledge-sharing around digital fabrication tools. A first project focused on intellectual and cultural openness and enrichment for Nicolas.

During his Master's degree, he rubbed shoulders with a large number of people between classes and his internship, helping him to develop his network. He was able to discover other innovative projects run by his fellow students, lecturers' companies and those run by TBS Education, in particular a project in which he is now involved: Life Waste2Build. This European project aims to develop the reuse of materials in construction, renovation and landscaping.

After obtaining his diploma, Nicolas decided to specialize and took a course in PEMD diagnostics.

In 2023, he achieved his goal by creating SiqlAA, his pemd & resources diagnostics company, and then most recently joined Première Brique, Toulouse Métropole's social innovation incubator, with the Co.Lab project.

These two roles place him at the heart of the circular economy and social economy ecosystems. His aim is to put technological innovation at the service of social innovation and sustainability.

Co.Lab aims to provide innovative solutions to housing issues, by creating and implementing construction solutions using reused materials.

Today, Nicolas is involved in both these activities, in line with the initiatives taken by Toulouse Metropole and the Occitanie region.
