Damien's entrepreneurial adventure: CapOrg at the service of Projects with a Responsible and Sustainable Impact

23 July 2024 Portraits / Podcasts

Damien PATAKI (TBS Education 2022) enters TBS Education with an idea in mind and will leave with a concrete project. After 15 years working for international companies, Damien set out to create a real link between his values and his work. He took over his father's consultancy and transformed it into a firm of experts in strategy, CSR and sustainable development. CapOrg was reborn, and Damien now focuses on supporting companies in their ecological and social transition, in line with the values of its new leader.

What is your professional background and how did you set up CapOrg?

I joined TBS Education with over 15 years' professional experience and an idea in mind: to move into consulting to help companies address the environmental and social issues that impact them. I then trained in business management and strategic vision by completing a Mastère Top Executive CPA while consolidating my project. At the end of my training, I finalized the takeover of my father's consulting firm by transforming it.

I've always lived in an environment close to nature, which I appreciate and respect as much as possible (I still have a long way to go). I wanted to get more involved professionally and federate meaningful and hopeful actions around these environmental and social issues. As I'd already been a manager and responsible for large teams in France and abroad, the entrepreneurial adventure didn't frighten me - on the contrary. By returning to my studies at TBS Education, I reinforced the skills that enabled me to take the plunge. As my father's firm already existed, the biggest challenge was to transform it and give it credibility in these new areas. It's a challenge I'm still passionate about.

Shortly after my training at TBS éducation, CapOrg became a QUALIOPI-certified professional training center and a management and organizational consultancy specializing in CSR components (notably ESG reporting, decarbonization, diversity and inclusion) and support for projects with a responsible and sustainable impact.

At the heart of our support, we advocate three values: sharing, trust and commitment. We only work with companies that want to transform themselves to make a commitment to the environment by rethinking their business models. We help them design their trajectories and support them in taking their first steps. A lot of our training and coaching is now carried out using games or edutainment tools, which help to quickly make these transition issues less complex, more accessible and less anxiety-provoking.

Because it can be complicated for a company to say that its business is not sustainable or that it can no longer operate in the same way due to societal pressure. I've come to understand this myself through my own experience and training. That's why I always listen to my customers, without judgment or preconception. My aim is to bring people together and unite them around a common project that makes sense, with a sustainable trajectory. Even if this requires a lot of work and versatility, my contributions, no matter how small, are always a source of motivation.

Thanks to my background, I've now acquired a 360° vision, a key skill for supporting companies and their managers in the societal transitions of the future.

What were the main challenges you faced?

I often say to myself that the greatest challenges are the ones we impose on ourselves.

I chose to transform the firm to specialize and work as an expert, which was the first challenge, recognition and competence.

The second is to be able to give up certain contracts in order to remain true to my convictions. I mainly work with companies and managers in the South-West of France who want to transform themselves to have a positive impact on the environment and their organizations.

On a day-to-day basis, the major challenge is to keep pace with changing standards, tools and societal issues, the consequences of which are accelerating. So I'm constantly learning to make sure I'm relevant.

How has TBS Education been a lever in your career?

TBS Education gave me expertise, recognition, a network and values that I apply every day.

In particular, it was during these 2 years that my entrepreneurial spirit took on its full meaning. We were able to think strategically over the long term, and were challenged on the subject of entrepreneurship, which helped me enormously.

By becoming a company with a mission, TBS Education promotes and implements values that I share.

What advice would you give our readers?

For me, the most important thing at work is to be aligned with your desires and values. Don't put limits on yourself; sometimes you'll have to make concessions, but that's part of the game too.
